WINTER POEMS
(Some winter poems to add to the Christmas ones, as the days turn colder and shorter)
FROSTY MORNING
Print cuts on the
white frosted lawn
and the trees bent over
heavy with wonder.
White sun, blurred edges
glows through a mist
where rooftops
reflect diamond beams
and sparkling light
and the air is a puff
of passing breath

FROZEN
Fog and ice
Not very nice.
We’re all freezing,
Someone’s sneezing.
Tap won’t flow,
Here comes snow!
Brr, brr,
Shiver, shiver,
My
nose
drip is
a frozen

WINTER SYMPHONY
I went for a walk on a winter’s day
And this is the music I heard it play:
The wind was the rhythm of violin strings.
The sky a tempo of crows.
A rhapsody fell on the woodland leaves,
The soft cadenza of snow.
Then the wind rose to a crescendo,
A drumroll as loud as thunder.
I ran back home through a blizzard
Of winter’s orchestral wonder.
And there a staccato of crackling logs
Drew me to sit by the fire,
Warming up to the symphony
And sound of winter’s choir.
