THE END OF AUGUST IS NEARLY HERE!

Almost time for Back to School, although I know some of you will already have begun that journey. I wish you luck in whatever capacity that may take – first time at Primary, a new Junior, or even a Senior. And here are some poems to celebrate those occasions:

END OF AN ERA DAY!

The end of term.

The end of year.

The end of school is drawing near.

***

It’s been such fun.

It’s been a blast.

But Junior school has gone so fast.

***

We’re leavers now.

We’ve made good friends.

We hope those friendships never end.

***

We’re going up.

We’re moving on.

We’re grown-ups now – we will be strong.

***

But summer’s here.

We’ll laugh and play

and just enjoy each endless day.

***

Until September

brings the new.

The brief unknown, for me and you.

SUMMER LEAVER

You’ve done it.

You’ve made it.

You’re a hero, yes you are!

***

You’re a leaver.

You’re a newbie.

You’re a wonder, you’re a star!

***

Senior school is beckoning,

it’s time to say farewell,

to your primary and junior years,

the ones you’ve known so well.

***

You’ll make it. You’ll love it.

You’ll rock it there, for sure.

And next year, you’ll be the senior

watching YOU come through the door!

SEPTEMBER

Summer is over,

clouds sweep the sky.

Swallows are leaving.

We whisper, goodbye.

***

It’s the time of the season

for harvesting hay.

Gathering apples.

Less light in the day.

***

But the biggest event,

as a general rule,

is the sound of the children

returning to school.

***

Meet at the school gates,

with new bags, new shoes.

Lots to catch up on,

much chatter and news.

***

New classroom, new teacher,

in different spaces,

but facing it all with

same friends, same faces.

***

For some it’s the first time

ever at school.

Let’s welcome them all:

BE KIND, it’s the rule!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!
