SUMMER: It’s been a while since I posted any poems or words on my website. At the moment it is hot, hot, hot and my garden is flourishing with flowers, vegetables and the inevitable little insects that want a taste of it all! Here’s a poem to start us off about Aphids! Followed by a few more summer related words. Have a wonderful time, wherever you are!

Here’s one for the letter B
SUMMER B’s
Busy bumbling bees,
Beaming big blue sky.
Berries on the blackberry bush
Butterflies breezing by.
Balmy, bright and beautiful.
Birds and babbling brooks.
Bats and balls and barbecues.
Beaches, bathing and books!

THAT IS SUMMER
when the air sings
with the swoop of swallows.
With the whoop of kids
at the end of term.
When the sky beams
in endless blue and gold
and the fields bloom
with grass and wild flowers
where bees and butterflies
dance from plant to plant.
When the world is a splash
and shrieks in pools and seas,
and the tap-tap
of bat and ball across
the sand and land.
When the air smells
of barbecues and fire-pits
and late night chatter
in back gardens.
The dash of swifts
high among the clouds
and swarms of passengers
in soaring planes.
When parks echo
with picnics and playtime,
and the pavements click
to the footsteps of tourists.
When the streets smell
and swell with queues for food,
and all the world is walking
and talking and smiling.
That is summer.
