SPOOKY SHED POEMS: Enter if you Dare!

AFTER HALLOWEEN

It’s under the bed,

I saw it, I did.

It followed me home

And that’s where it hid.

It kept to the shadows

In dark disguise

And watched where I went

With its red ember eyes.

I ran up my house steps

and slammed shut the door

But its shadow slipped in

Through a crack in the floor.

It crept up the stairs

And into my room.

I shouted for mum

Who arrived, with a broom.

The shadowy spectre,

Its eyes burning red,

Disappeared like a trick

Right under my bed.

Mum poked and she prodded

Then said, nothings there.

Your spectre has vanished,

Into thin air.

But the minute mum left

I heard its harsh breath,

The room filled with shadows

Darker than death.

As I lay there in terror

The monster slid out

And crawled up the covers

To get me, no doubt.

My breath came in gasps

And I let out a scream.

Then Mum said, wake up love,

‘You’ve had a bad dream.’

DON’T LOOK IN THE MIRROR

If you look in a mirror at Halloween

What do you think you will see?

Shadowy demons lurking there?

Something hovering in the air?

A face like a zombie, who could it be?

Look more closely –

Aaaaagh – IT’S ME!

EIGHT- LEGGED MONSTER

It was the night of Halloween

We were having so such fun,

Until the pumpkin went crazy

And everyone shouted run.

Its face had started melting

It was growing eight hairy legs.

Two bulging eyes were staring

As it rose up on those pegs.

I stood there frozen in the hope

This nightmare was a dream,

And then its hairy leg tickled

And I let out a terrified scream.

Please don’t scream, said the spider

And gave me a scary wink,

You think I’m your very worst nightmare

But I’m not as bad as you think!

When you scream it scares me;

It really is a din.

The very sound and sight of you

Puts me in a spin.

I promise I won’t scare you

If you’ll let me hang around.

And then I’ll simply vanish

Out of sight and out of sound.

RAP FOR GHOSTS

They move in the night

they’re light and white

they come out of the cupboard

they give me a fright.

They dance in a trance

like shadows on a wall

grotesque and tall.

They rattle and groan

like the wind in the trees.

Green eyes, red eyes

glinting like coals

on a fire, a pyre

in my room

where the curtains blow

they glow in the moonless

gloom and I’m under cover

in this tomb my room

shouting for someone

but they won’t hear

I fear, I know

they’re downstairs

with the TV too loud

laughing out loud.

It’s clear

I’m alone

on my own

with the tap

and the rap of

these ghosts

in the gloom

in my room.
