Below are testimonials from some of the schools that Val has recently visited.
A perfectly pitched poetry book for primary level – Val Harris made me smile most of the way through this book. The poems have range and are well-written – and great fun. I’m sure we’ll see Val being published soon by one of the big publishers – I hope so, anyway! An excellent book for teachers to share in school.
Liz Brownlee - Poet, Poetry Roundabout
We were really lucky in Years 4 and 5 this week when local children’s poet Val Harris came and ran workshops with the children. She brought along her newly published book ‘A Classroom of Stars’ and shared her inspirations for her poetry and we were lucky enough to have a poetry reading from her. The children then wrote their own poems all about themselves with Val’s help. The work they produced was beautiful! A big thank-you to Val for coming and speaking to the children.

The children had a lovely afternoon when children’s poet Val Harris came to visit. She shared her own poems as well as reading poems from other authors. Val ran an amazing interactive workshop where the children each created an inspirational poem about themselves.

From the moment Val met the children, they were enthused and completely immersed with her passion for poetry and language. Val read poems from her book, A Classroom of Stars, and others, in an engaging performance, using props to support the theme of the poetry. She shared her love of writing, explaining the process of playing with language to create rhythm and rhyme. As a result, the children had an opportunity to craft their own poetry and share their learning with each other. The atmosphere was purposeful and a joy to be part of!
