LATE SUMMER NEWS

I notice one of my last poems on the June post was called Summer Sizzle, and gosh, have we sizzled. The land, the people, the animals – with hardly a drop of rain appearing in my part of the country, in the South East for nearly two months. The land is dry and dusty, the people are frazzled and the animals are wondering what on earth is going on. Trees are dropping their leaves, and the clouds are teasing us with the look of rain but then waving goodbye without sending a drop. I’ve tried rain dancing, but the magic is not working.

THOUGHTS IN A HEATWAVE

I’m melting

I’m sweltering

I’m fractious

I’m hot!

****

I’m sweating

Perspiring

I’m dripping

I’m hot!

****

I’m boiling

I’m sizzling

I’m steaming

I’m hot!

***

I’m hotter

than Venus

I’m hotter

than chilli

***

I’m hotter

than fire

and I’m not

being silly!

And here is a poem that I wrote for The Dirigible Balloon (www.dirigibleballoon.org)

Dragonfly

Loop the loop.
Dip and scoop.
Swing and ring
on silver wing,

Hover, glide.
Dart and slide.
Flash of blue,
sparkling hue.

Dragonfly.
Summer sky.
Sunlight shimmer.
Pond top skimmer.

AND HERE IS A POEM ABOUT SOMETHING WE ARE WISHING FOR:

Rain

I can soothe you;
I can lash you,
I can make you wear a hat.
I can get under your collar
I can hit you with a splat!
I can make your feet all soggy,
I can bash your flowers flat,
I can stop you playing games outside;
Yes me, I do all that!

SEE YOU ALL IN SEPTEMBER!
