Hello everyone. We are almost halfway through November, so I thought it was time to update my blog and add some poetry posts for some important occasions that we have recently celebrated. I hope you had fun on GUY FAWKES NIGHT . Luckily the rain held off here and the celebration for Guy Fawkes Night in our village, was a very colourful occasion. On the theme of FIREWORKS, I have posted one about YOU! Yesterday was WORLD KINDNESS DAY and I will be posting a poem I wrote about feelings. It has also been ANTI-BULLYING WEEK and I have a poem for that too. These are all important moments to reflect and think about how we behave and react towards others. On 9th November REMEMBRANCE DAY was in memory of all the brave people and animals who gave their lives in two world wars, so that we could live in our country in peace. Thank you to them all. Moving on to today for a rather different theme. Today is a very soggy wet day! So I thought I’d post a RAINY DAY poem.
YOU ARE A FIREWORK
A fizzing, popping, firework.
A soaring spectacular, firework.
A bright and blazing, firework.
A firework with a glowing heart.
A firework with a whizz and wow.
A firework to dazzle the world.
YOU ARE
a glittering, sparkling,
FIREWORK!

WHEN HAPPINESS WENT FOR A WALK
HAPPINESS went for a walk today.
Bumped into GRUMBLE and rolled it away.
Called out to ANGER, have a nice day.
Put its arms around ANXIOUS – it will be okay.
Reached out to SADNESS and lifted the grey.
Straightened the words of CONFUSION’S dismay.
Took DISAPPOINTMENT off to play.
Gathered up DOUBT in a sunny display.
Teamed up with LOVE and paved the way.

PLAYGROUND GAMES
Who swung the rope for skipping?
Who threw a hopscotch stone?
It was me, and all the rest of us,
while you stood on your own.
**
You didn’t join in games with us,
we never wondered why?
Me, and all the rest of us
never thought you might be shy.
**
We carried on, we had a laugh,
we turned our backs on you.
We maybe even whispered
things about you, that weren’t true.
**
We wouldn’t like to be left out,
ignored for being shy.
We wouldn’t like to hide
because our loneliness made us cry.
**
So, if there’s someone on the side-lines,
with nothing much to say.
Maybe one of us could ask
if they would like to play!

THIS IS A POEM FOR ALL THE HORSES WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES PARTICULARLY IN WORLD WAR ONE
BATTLE HORSE
From meadows sweet with grass and hay
and trees, to shade him, through the day.
A stall to keep him warm and dry,
a bed of straw on which to lie.
**
They shipped him off to fields and mud,
to rain and fire and cannon thud.
**
His head is high, his legs are strong,
bearing his soldier, into the throng
where ‘charge’ he hears and ‘charge!’ again,
the fall of men, the cries of pain.
the smoke is thick concealing foes,
then flash and bang and down he goes.
**
His body falls upon that field
with laboured breath, his fate is sealed.
But through the smoke blue skies he sees,
a river running through the trees,
some cool green grass on which to lay
and watch a passing summer’s day.
**
No guns to pound his deafened ears,
nor white of eye reveal his fears.
No thick mud trench, no barbed wire,
no bullets, bombs and constant fire.
His tired eyes close, the time has come –
his final gallop from the Somme.

A POEM FOR TODAY! (Where I am)
RAIN
I can soothe you, I can lash you,
I can make you wear a hat.
I can get under your collar,
I can hit you with a splat!
I can make your feet all soggy.
I can bash your garden flat.
I can stop you playing games outside.
Yes me, I do all that!
