HALLOWEEN! The Spooky Night is getting nearer, and here are a few poems to get you thinking!

FRIGHT NIGHT!

A wildness of Witches

on broomsticks with cats.

Hocus and Pocus

and big pointy hats

***

stirring a cauldron

of magical stew.

A cupful for me

and a cupful for you.

***

rats tails and lizard eyes,

frog spawn jelly,

mixed up with slime

and something that’s smelly!

***

Eerie wild creatures

are walking the streets.

Looking for mischief

and howling for treats.

***

Pumpkins aglow

will give you a fright

with their carved spooky faces

to light up the night.

***

Spiders and cobwebs.

Halloween fun.

Magic and trickery.

Everyone run!

RAT-A-TAT-TAT

Spooks in the shadows

Dancing through the trees

Bats in the branches

Hanging where they please.

***

Witches on broomsticks

Filling up the skies

Black cats in the shadows

With super-glittering eyes.

***

It’s Halloween

It’s Halloween

On the door we’ll beat:

Rat-a-tat-tat

Rat-a-tat-tat

It’s time for trick or treat!

MY COSTUME HAS BEEN BANNED

Halloween is on the way,

I’ve got my costume planned.

**

But then mum said ‘No way, no way,

Your costume will be banned.’

**

It isn’t very scary,

It’s an Owlish kind of creature.

**

But mum insists there’s no way

I can go dressed as my teacher!

SPOOKY

Tonight, we’ll see what can’t be seen,

except on the night of Halloween,

***

when strange and other-worldly creatures

(not to be confused with teachers)

***

roam the streets all through the night

where pumpkins glow with eerie light.

***

Goblins grinning, cats in hats,

giant spiders, vampire bats.

***

Zombies, skeletons, rumbling and rattling.

Ghosts and ghouls and witches cackling.

***

Up and down the cities and towns,

streets are full of grotesque clowns

***

with coal black eyes and snow-white faces,

jumping out from hidden places.

***

Nightmares wait upon the streets.

Sticky webs, and tricks, not treats.

***

Screams, not laughter, fill the air.

Halloween frights that make your hair

***

stand on end, your eyes go white.

Don’t look in the mirror tonight!
