APRIL

Here are some poems for Spring. The sun has been shining and the dark clouds with rain have disappeared – at least for the time being – so here are some Spring thoughts.

The First Poem is from my book A CLASSROOM OF STARS and it’s called:

TWITTER FEED

There’s a tweeting in the hedgerows

Snap-chatting in the air.

She’s filling up the feeders,

Excitement everywhere.

___

The twitter feed is going mad

It’s buzzing round like bees,

She’s filling up the feeders

With fat balls, nuts and seeds.

___

Every single one is full

For every bird around;

And mealworms for the robins

To peck at, on the ground.

___

They’re tweeting in the hedgerows

Snap-chatting in the trees,

It’s a twitter feed for everyone

As long as they tweet ‘please!’

This poem appeared in a wonderful poetry resource for children called:

THE DIRIGIBLE BALLOON (www.dirigibleballoon.org)

THE COLOURS OF SPRING

Where the moss turns green

and softens the lawn,

Spring has a spring in its step.

Where yellow daffodils

and primrose beam,

Spring has a spring in its step.

Where purple aubretia

pops out from the wall,

Spring has a spring in its step.

Where magnolia buds

bloom ice-pink in the tree,

Spring has a spring in its step.

Where new life begins

in colourful joy,

Spring has a spring in its step.

And here is a poem for a little insect you might have ‘spotted’ emerging.

SEVEN SPOT LADY-BIRD

I’m the seven-spot ladybird

Quite common, so they say.

But I’m really rather more than that

In every kind of way.

___

I work around your garden

Where you’ll find you need me most,

As a natural pest-controller

And an aphid eating host.

___

My appetite’s voracious

I hoover up the pests,

The aphids on your vegetables

Are tasty and the best.
